How to apply for a new Australian passport

Urgent applications
Need your passport quickly? Find out what to do for urgent applications.
You should allow up to 6 weeks to receive your passport. The Australian Passport Office will email you when they despatch your passport. Allow 5-6 business days for delivery.
Renewing a passport
If you already have an adult passport, you may be able to renew it. Find out more about passport renewal eligibility.
Child passports
A parent, or somebody with parental responsibility, can lodge a child passport application. If aged 16 or 17, the child applicant(s) must come to the Post Office too. Find out more about child passports.
Adult passports
Standard adult passports are valid for 10 years. Applicants aged 75 years and over can apply for 5 year validity. Find out more about adult passports.
